A couple studies have recently emerged on the implications of sitting for prolonged periods. One linked sitting to increased risks of diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and another out of the American Journal of Epidemiology showed sitting is responsible for 170,000 cases of cancer every year.
“Neanderthal” posture, where the shoulders and hips are flexed, mimics the “fight-or-flight” posture the body assumes when running or fighting. This posture is an immediate invitation to the body to secrete “fight-or-flight” hormones. This posture increases death rates due to atherosclerosis.
Most of the health risks associated with sitting and poor posture are related to organs and systems and NOT just neck or back pain. Regular chiropractic care not only addresses posture but addresses the nervous system and how it functions! Restoring proper function allows the body to heal effectively and efficiently.
So remember to move, stretch, and stand as much as possible during the day and GET ADJUSTED!
